Spiritual multiplication

Cru friends,

Sorry for the delay!  This really is going to be weekly.  I blame spring break (but don't blame your circumstances for your sin, like I just did).
Anyway, we will now continue to review and summarize the talks from Cru in our series on The Finishers.  Last time we recapped Laura's talk on taking the initiative in evangelism.  This week we'll take a brief look back at what Jon shared about spiritual multiplication.

Spiritual Multiplication

There was some little ditty about a romantic failure from Jon's distant past.  No need to rehash or remember any of that.  The actual part of the talk to remember is this...

"Spiritual multiplication" (the intentional investment of your life into a few other people to guide them toward maturity in Christ) across the globe is God's strategy to redeem all of humanity and to finish the Great Commission.

We get a clear picture of this throughout 2 Timothy, especially in 2:2, in which Paul instructs Timothy, " The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to teach others also."  But how?  Here are the three main components of this intentional investment into others (also called "discipleship"):

1. Relationship
"Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy." 2 Tim. 1:4

2. God's Word
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Tim. 3:16-17

3. Ministry
"[There will be people who just get together to hear whatever makes them feel good,] but you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry." 2 Tim. 4:5 (with added paraphrase)

Questions for Reflection or Discussion

Are there people you are intentionally investing in spiritually?
If not, when and how can you start?
If so, which area might need more focus-- relationship, the Word, or ministry?
Is there someone who's intentionally investing in you?  If not, how can you pursue this sort of relationship?

In Christ,
